2009 Update
21/02/09
I’m very much overdue to give you an update on the lives of the key players in the Rose Red saga, so that you are brought up to date on what is occurring where and to whom while you read my ongoing journal and articles.
Survivors Cathy Kramer, Emery Waterman, Rachel Weaton, Annie Weaton, and Steve Rimbauer are all well & thriving.
-
Cathy married in late 2004. Her husband is a minister, of all appropriate occupations! Cathy is still reluctant to speak of her experiences in Rose Red, particularly since the frequency of paranormal phenomena on the site & in the lives touched by Rose Red has been on the increase. We occasionally speak on the phone and remain close through the bond Nick forged when he gave his life to save hers. She still lives near Seattle and no longer engages in automatic writing.
-
Emery still employs himself with his gift of post-cognitive psychic visions, but he long ago climbed out from beneath the mountain of his mother’s debts. Now he is happy to pay his bills using his abilities, rather than brow-beaten. He jokes that the weight of his fingers was the weight of the world; since losing them in the Rimbauer mansion he has slimmed down, shaped up, become a happier person, and even met a lovely woman, to whom he has been engaged for a year.
-
Rachel and Steve never did hit it off the way I’d hoped they would. But Rachel did meet a wonderful man – a teacher at the school for autistic teenagers that Annie attended. He’s loving and understanding of Rachel and Annie both as individuals and of the dynamic between them. And most astonishingly, Mr. Wheaton approves of him! Two years ago Rachel gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. Surprisingly enough, they named her Ellen, after Ellen Rimbauer. Rachel says the more time passed the more she began to feel that Ellen was truly a victim of Rose Red, not the creator of its evils. She was not always twisted, and their child was named Ellen to memorialize the Ellen of old. The Ellen before the heartache and emotional abuse inflicted upon her by John Rimbauer. The Ellen who did nothing more than fear for her life, love her children, and love her home…until she succumbed to the curse that touched the very soil upon which the mansion stood. Rachel is a stay-at-home mom and as I type this, has a bun in the oven of the not-so-bread variety!
-
Annie did extremely well at school and made tremendous strides towards the goal of interfacing with society on a more functional level. She still displays classic signs of autism, but no longer behaves with total unpredictability and lack of social grace. She lives with Rachel and periodically agrees to be the subject of parapsychological research. From what I’ve seen she is a truly unique and magical aunt to Rachel’s girl.
-
Steve is perhaps my closest friend of the Rose Red group. He too understands what it’s like to lose someone you love to Rose Red. He lost Joyce like I lost Nick. We see each other regularly out and about in Seattle – dinner, social events, even a few movie nights at his place. He has still never set foot in my TechStar condo on the Rose Red property. With the money he received from the sale of Rose Red he paid off his family debts, allowed himself to splurge on a few flashy toys, and then set down to the serious task of maintaining and increasing his wealth. He invested wisely and went back to school, mostly to keep busy. He graduated with a degree in Computer Science with several professional certifications that will guarantee he always has a job somewhere, sometime. It seems he’s terminally single.
- Since she was mentioned in the miniseries based on the Rose Red story, it is worth informing you that, sadly, Carl Miller’s wife Anne died of breast cancer in early 2006.
Of the dozens of men and women who died or disappeared in Rose Red and the surrounding property, no concrete trace has yet been found. But I remain hopeful. There is mounting evidence Rose Red is alive and well…and that those trapped on the property are also still around – so there is reason to remain cautiously optimistic.
I have to believe it is only a matter of time before we somehow solve the mystery, and those who’ve died at Rose Red will find peace, while whose who’ve merely been taken captive will be released…with luck, back to life as we know it.

Hello Ally,
I don’t know if you remember me or not, but I am Emery Waterman’s fiancée Mary Ashwood.
I have temporarily quit my job as a Forensic Scientist so I can help him in his work, which is going well, all things considered.
After reading your work, which was very enthralling, I am thinking of also publicly documenting our progress, or a possible collaboration.
I wish you well for your endeavours in the future and pray for Nick and that he is resting in peace.
Good luck with your investigations,
From Mary Ashwood

Mary, of course - thank you so much for getting in touch. I hope I didn’t put you out too much with Emery coming to my place on such short notice. I wish I could have invited you both over for a civilised meal but my kitchen was in a bit of a state at the time…
But perhaps we’ll have a chance to get together someday, I’d like that. I’d also like to read about the adventures you two have been having and hope you’ll keep me posted.
And thank you. I pray for Nick often, too. I just hope wherever he is here he’s not suffering. In my mind he’s bravely fighting to free his fellow captives. But, we shall see…

Ally,
I am fine with Emery being called out. ‘Anything for a friend’, I say. We are more than welcome to lend a hand to your investigations.
And in relation to that, Emery gave me the sample of Ectoplasm, and I am currently conducting some scientific tests on it, to see what it consists of, so I shall hopefully be back to you on that one soon.
Remember: Call us anytime for anything, we will be glad to assist.

Mary, thank you so much for your support. And for taking a look at the stuff from my kitchen - I am very curious what you’ll find and look forward to your results. But no rush, I know you and Emery keep pretty busy these days!
